I would say I realised I wanted to be a scientist when I was at school. I had a great teacher and they inspired me to keep studying science. Then I decided to get job that involved science as that is what I most enjoyed learning about. If you’re trying to decide if you’d like to be a scientist or not, my advice would be to simply keep studying whatever it is that you enjoy learning about most in school.

I know plenty of scientists that only realised what they wanted to pretty late, so I’d be interested to see what the other scientists think.

I’m not sure I’ve realised I want to be a scientist yet… 😛 But I get up in the morning and just go with the flow. I think science is a calling or vocation. I think many people a drawn to it and just get sucked in and love it.

Probably from fourth year of my undergrad degree, before that I didn’t really know what I wanted to do.
